About Us

Amy Prechter has a lifelong history of horses and has made horses a part of her everyday life, education and career. In her youth, Amy grew up showing and competing on Morgan Horses. Her parents Edward and Beverly Prechter created Cedar Ridge Morgans with the belief that dreams really can come true. Together they fulfilled a lifelong dream of enhancing and promoting the heritage of the first American bred horse, and the dreams of a man called Justin Morgan.

Through the years, and until Beverly’s passing in 2002 and Edward’s passing in 2021, they instilled this lifelong passion of horses in her. In 2005, Amy developed her very own equestrian operation that she named Cedar Ridge Equine, as she wanted to include a variety of horses in her program, particularly Quarter horses. At this facility, Amy trains horses and instructs riding lessons to all ages, levels and disciplines of riders and most recently has developed a breeding program with plans on breeding sane, athletic and conformationally correct Quarter horses. Even though she changed the name, the philosophy at Cedar Ridge Equine will forever remain the same.

In 2018, Amy met her husband Justin Hanson and together they have continued to share and expand, bringing the business to a new level. In 2019, the pair started developing their performance Quarter horse breeding program, that they now call JA Performance Horses. Both Amy and Justin are passionate about horses and love being able to work side by side raising horses, as well as training horses and riders. They strive to produce top quality all around performance quarter horses that can be seen in multiple arenas, from barrel racing to the cowboy dressage court, to the branding pen on a working ranch. When not at the barn they enjoy spending time with their family, Justin has two beautiful daughters, Kaycee and McKenna Hanson, who also are very passionate about horses and Amy adopted her nephew Maddux when he was 11 years old, when Amy’s sister (Maddux’s mother) passed away. Maddux has also shared an interest in horses and is currently working at CRE as a ranch assistant.
